Planning my thriller short film
In groups, we were given a task to 'recreate' The Breakfast Club's intro with the theme 'school is scary'. We had to consider elements of mise-en-scene (lighting, setting, props etc..) as well as editing techniques. I learned how to use a tripod and mount a camera onto it, how to use all the settings on the camera in order to create my desired effect and how to manipulate lighting. We decided to edit our video into the black and white filter so that it gave off more of a scary vibe as a lot of our clips were quite well lit as we had to film in the day time and also a few clips were outside and we couldn't do much about the bright light.
gantt chart
i produced a gantt chart in order to manage my time effectively so i could complete everything to the best standard i could in the time i was given
my initial idea is to have a woman who has been hurt in someway put into a witness protection program and while she's there the person who hurts her finds her. I hope to film this is the hospitality hotel room as it will portray the look that I need the easiest and most accessible way
I plan on using this shot type in my film just before the suspense build us as this is when people are most vulnerable

I plan to use this shot type to smoothly transition from shot to shot in the beginning of my film

copyright research
''Sound recordings and films created since 1 August 1989 have copyright protection. Provided the work is original and that certain further criteria are met, the work is protected under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Copies of sound recordings and films are not protected by copyright.
Sound recordings and films created before 1 August 1989 may have copyright protection under earlier legislation.’'
Using copyrighted audio in your short films is illegal so id have to search for music which is not copyrighted to use in certain parts and in the background or id have to create my own
short film survey and analysis
my reasoning for wanting to ask these questions was more to get the age/gender of people who would want to watch my film
I wanted to ask this question to see if people had been drawn to a drama film most recently
I asked this question to see if people actually enjoyed drama films before I decided to use the genre in my final product and the results were positive
I used this as a follow up question incase people didn't like drama films so I could get a better understanding of the reasons why they didn't like drama films
I hoped this question would give me ideas as to what people expect to be in drama films so I could use the ideas in order to create mine.
I used this as a follow up to the previous question I asked in order to find out the reasons why people liked drama films
I hoped this question would give me a sense of what not to include in my film and I think it did quite a good job.
i thought it would be helpful to know what people don't enjoy about drama films so i can keep them in mind when i make mine
My idea for my short film is for a woman who is in a witness protection program.
I plan to start my film of with a mid shot of two people walking into a hotel room type space and one explaining that this is a safe space for them to be staying and nothing bad will happen now. Then she will leave the main protagonist in the room alone.
As the story progresses I want the build up to the disequilibrium to be fast and then to end on a cliffhanger.
script

film opens of a scene of my main protagonist and an extra character walking into a 'safe space'

extra character says 'this is where you will be staying, you will be safe here'

main protagonist nods

extra character 'if you need anything just ask' then leaves the space
Storyboarding my Thriller Short Film idea
casting
I decided to use my friend Laila as the main protagonist as she's young and female and it is common for the thriller genre that the main protagonist is young and female as they are generally the most vulnerable to danger
costume plan
my plan for the costumes is to have them be wearing something comfy and casual in order to portray the idea that she is being protected and is in a safe space so comfy clothes will show the idea of safety and comfort for the character
this is what my main protagonist will be wearing for the short film
set and props
I'm going to use the hospitality hotel room set as my place to film as it is a small room which will serve the purpose of the protection room type thing. it also has a bed and a bathroom and looks like a professional hotel room and also looks like it would serve as a protective space. this means i wont really need to bring props into the space as everything i would need is already in there. i'm going to take in the light boxes and try to manipulate the natural lighting that's already in there. the rooms light source is motion censored so when you go in there the light comes on. i am going to try to cover the censor so i can have the lighting be more low-key rather than bright because that fits my theme more.
risk assessment:
some potential minor risks while filming are tripping over wires, the lights potentially overheating, disturbance to the audio from other people in the area, potential damage to the equipment and more. There are simple ways to overcome these

music and sound effects
I researched thriller films and how they use music and sound effects in their editing and tried to incorporate it into my film. I did this by going on different copyright free music to use in it. I chose 2 different songs and a few different sound effects to use in my film
after my planning I began to make my film using everything I had researched and learned about
